        Kyle Hannan

        Kyle Hannan

Kyle joined the club in 2024 and has been building a Universal Carrier, which is the first 1/35th scale kit he's built since he was 17. He's moving slowly, learning all the new techniques, plus having to relearn everything that he'd forgotten since he left high school.

        Universal Carrier

Kyle's got an idea for a diorama which will be set shortly after the D-Day Landings in Normandy in 1944, inspired by a recent visit to the WARAG military re-enactment weekend here in Somerset. While he was there, he bumped into members of the 43rd Recce Living History Group, whose vehicles and online military records have given him the source material he needed. He will be rebadging the carrier to represent the same vehicle used by the group, and basing the diorama on archival footage of their unit in action in France.

The figures he's using are a combination of the Tamiya kit-provided figures, a Masterbox British infantry set, and a single figure from a Masterbox German POW set.  It'll represent a wounded prisoner being marched past the carrier as it's digging in.

It's been a long and steady process, but incredibly enjoyable to get into the hobby again. He's been slowly re-equipping with all the tools, the paints, and the accessories required. Plus, getting tips and techniques from all the other modellers in the group has been practical, useful, and fun.

And, before anyone asks, YES: some other kits have been bought and a very small and manageable "stash"  is already beginning to accumulate.
